Sistine Ceiling - The Act of Creation

The Renaissance

~ 1512 C.E.

Michelangelo immortalizes the creation of the checkmark.
In a game of one-upmanship with fierce rival Leonardo (And in no small measure due to a forced contract) Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

Driven by competition, embittered by forced labor, and suffering a chronic stiff neck, Michelangelo subversively included the checkmark in his masterpeice, thus infusing it with broader meaning and significance.

One can still see the mark, emblazoned on the newly created sun, a monument to individualism and personal freedom.
