Here there be dragons.
Stories once circulated of grotesquely tentacled monsters
lurking in the deep, salivating at the prospect of devouring helpless sailors. Fear of such creatures, fear of the unknown,
motivated people to stay comfortable… to stay home.
Some, heedless of naysayers, set out into the void bound for ports unknown. Were they stubborn? Courageous? Just plain
curious? We’re not sure, But the checkmark quickly became their rallying symbol (and later their flag) as they gallantly pursued the horizon.
